British-Indian Sculptor Anish Kapoor Awards $1 Million ‘Jewish Nobel’ Prize To Refugees

Anish Kapoor, a British-Indian sculptor, contributed $1 million on Wednesday to five charities working with migrants throughout the world, to help ease a record-breaking global displacement crisis.

Last year, Kapoor, who was born to an Indian father and an Iraqi Jewish mother, was awarded the Genesis Prize, dubbed the Jewish Nobel, for his dedication to Jewish principles.

In a statement, he stated, “Like many Jews, I don’t have to look far back in my family history to identify folks who were refugees.”

“Assigning monies from the Genesis Prize to this cause is a method of assisting those who, like my forefathers not long ago, are escaping oppression.”

According to the United Nations, the globe is seeing the largest levels of displacement on record, with more than 65 million people forced to escape their homes, surpassing numbers seen after World War II more than 70 years ago.
