THE NATION’S CAPITAL: Because their relatives in Delhi fell ill with a disease called Covid and were kept in quarantine, more than 100 Jews from Manipur have had to postpone their plans to move to Israel.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity,” 40-year-old Soizagin told the Times of India as he prepared to abandon his Indian citizenship. “We’ve been thrilled,” Soizagin, who goes by just one name and is currently recovering at a Sikh temple that’s been converted into a Covid care facility, told the reporters. Covid is behind our delay, just because they are a positive company. We would have left by the end of last month unless something else happened.
Soizagin is a member of the Bnei Menashe group of around 6,000 people who live in Mizoram and Manipur, India, as well as in surrounding villages in the northeast, which have been officially recognized by Israel’s rabbinical officials as Jews.
