For the first Indian Jews, assimilation in Israel was not easy

Following 1948, not only the Jews who made India their home, but also those who went to Israel with India in their hearts, have had an impact on India-Israel ties.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu arrived in India, bringing with him hopes for the two countries’ relations to reach new heights. Netanyahu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already signed nine agreements in the sectors of oil and gas, as well as a revised protocol for airports and cybersecurity, on the second day of their visit. Netanyahu’s visit to India is significant because it aims to alleviate tensions between the two countries following India’s support for a UN resolution against President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Relations between India and Israel have been tense since India’s independence, owing to the large Jewish population that has lived within Indian boundaries for about 2000 years.
