I go all over the world. When someone says “Asia,” I think of a mystical India.
If you want to fall in love with “Incredible India,” as the country’s tourism ministry calls it, you don’t have to try very hard. Even though the country can be a bit of a shock to visitors, they soon learn that traversing this ancient land is a soul-searching journey.
People don’t seem to believe that India is so big. It goes from very hot and humid places to very cold and dry places; it’s a very big country.
During his time as prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who led the country’s fight for independence from Britain, wrote: “India is history.” Nehru also said that the country “has long memories.” Indeed, it has been around for five millennia. As part of that memory, the Jewish people are there as well. Jewish people have lived in India for more than 2,000 years. It has been a peaceful place for them and has played a big part in their sense of who they are.
