The Jewish Starlets of India’s “Bollywood” Cinema

The Jewesses of Bollywood were small, but they had a lot of power.

Bollywood, which is a term used to describe the Indian film industry, makes more than a thousand movies a year that are seen by 3 billion people around the world. Many people who see this art don’t know that Jewish women were the ones who made it.

In India, there are only about 5,000 Jews out of 1.3 billion people. A woman with real courage didn’t let that stop her. The answer is yes, almost all of India’s first female stars were from Baghdad. This means that they were Jewish people who came from a lot of Middle Eastern countries, including Baghdad!

In Indian movies, Sulochana (also known as Ruby Myers, 1907-83) was the first star. She also made more money than the governor of Bombay did. She also had a lot of fun buying herself a 1935 Chevy.
