Kochi Cuisine: Chef Julie Sahni Shares “A Taste of Jewish India”

If you were at the JCC/UJA Greenwich gala honoring Ellen Davis on March 6, you heard about Greenwich’s “old Jews.” The Jews of India date back far further, according to some, to the 6th century BC, with a second wave following the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD. JCC Greenwich will host a Taste of Jewish India with award-winning author, cooking teacher, and chef Julie Sahni on July 16 at 10:30 a.m. Foodies are encouraged to learn about the Kochi Jewish community’s history while cooking and tasting distinctive meals.

Sahni, dubbed “The Indian Culinary Authority,” is the author of ten cookbooks, including the seminal Classic Indian Cooking, which won the André Simon Award; Classic Indian Vegetarian and Grain Cooking, which won the prestigious Glenfiddich Best Cookbook Award; and Savoring India: Recipes and Reflections on Indian Cooking, which won the IACP Best International Cookbook Award.
