According to the 2011 census, India has a total population of 4650 Jews.

They come from quite different backgrounds and come from very different communities.

The Paradesi Jews are one of these various groups.

They are the descendants of Sephardic Jews from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) who were forced to flee discrimination in the 15th and 16th centuries, including forced conversion, persecutions, and expulsions.

They distributed over the globe, from Northern Europe to the Caribbean, and even as far as Asia.
